Facilitating the Recreation Experience
This course is designed to help students develop recreation facilitation and leadership skills. The course will focus on leadership theories, recreation leadership techniques, and group dynamics. Students will practice group leadership techniques through in-class activities and community engaged learning.
Lesson Plan #1
This assignment was completed in pairs in order to expand on teamwork skills. Hadley and her partner, Katherine Guevara, created a lesson plan complete with goals, learning outcomes, and a desired audience. This guided them through their 30-minute facilitation during class. As a leadership course, students were given a timeframe to host a facilitation of a recreation activity. They had to lead the class through the instruction, participation, and debrief after the activity. This allowed development in public speaking skills, organization, and leadership.
Lesson Plan #2
The class involved 2 full facilitations which allowed for improvement between facilitation sessions. Hadley and Katherine received feedback after the first facilitation to help improve their second go.
Article Written Report and Presentation
This assignment had pairs of students analyzing and annotating research articles on topics in the recreation sphere. Then, students were charged with presenting their findings to the class within a 15 minute period.
